The American Association of University Women was organized in 1881 as the American Association of Collegiate Alumnae. The name was changed to its present form in 1921. The Pekin Area Branch, formerly known as the Tazewell County Branch, was founded May, 1948.
Purposes
To promote equity in education and the workplace for women and girls. To become informed and support key legislation in regard to women’s issues — educational, social, economic and political. To encourage education as a way to ensure a woman’s economic security.
Membership
Association membership is open to any woman who holds an associate or baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
